The Mad Matter is a rural Alberta based custom picture frame studio. We offer a full suite of framing services although we specialize in handcrafted Canadian barnwood frames. We pair specialized wood working skills with professional picture framing skills creating frames that are of superior quality, unique and have rustic western charm.

For a unique way to display your photos, we offer Title Story mats in a one-of-a-kind barnwood frame. Other moulding styles are also available.
Each picture opening is in the shape of a letter which holds a
4x6 or 3.5 x 5 photo. What an excellent way to show off many pictures at one time!
We stock our most popular titles or have us custom cut special wording for you like your horse's name, or your family name.
Depending on the number of letters, frames measure 6" x either 26", 29" or 32".
Titlestory frames are $50, with a small additional charge for a one-of-a-kind custom cut.

Wire Decorated Frames
A step up from our basic barnwood frame, our wire decorated frames have wire mounted onto the corner, or center of the frame. Choose from three styles; Barbed wire deco, heart wire deco, or star wire deco.

Basic Canadian Barnwood Frames
Our basic barnwood frames are created with 1 3/4" wide moulding for standard sizes. Custom widths vary. Choose either grey or brown toned weathered wood. All standard sizes come with acid free backing and mounting / hanging hardware. As each frame is one-of-a-kind, your frame will not be exactly as shown, but similar.

Twine Decorated Frames
Complementing any country decor, our twine decorated frames have twine inlaid into the moulding. A twine similar to lariat rope is used on larger frames.

Edged Barnwood Frames
Our edged frames have a rounded edge with the natural wood tones showing through. With a beautiful, natural softened edge, these frames are very popular. Special care is taken to hand finish each edge, enhancing the wood's natural beauty.

Framing Upgrade Options
Matting: Matting serves two important purposes; to enhance the visual appeal of the piece and to provide breathing space between the photo or artwork and the glass. The Mad Matter offers custom cut matting at very reasonable costs. All our mats our archival in quality. Specialty mats are also available (V grooves, offset corners, multiple mats, color core mats). Contact the Mad Matter for specialty mat pricing.
Easel Backs: For customers who prefer a table top frame choose an easel back instead of a sawtooth hanger.
